Cherokee People are proud of our
ancestors and their perseverance during that horrible winter. The people in this
image have no reflection, they are the ghosts of the removal. During the
winter of 1838-39 sixteen thousand Cherokees were rounded up and forced overland to Indian
Territory. During the Removal over 4,000 Cherokees died. Through all the suffering and
hardships the Cherokee People kept heart and the strength of the Cherokee Nation
prevailed.
